MWAP ‘Getting Started’ Movement Classes

These classes provide a safe, supportive and fun community to help people develop confidence in movement.

The classes provide an opportunity for people to be with others who may also feel hesitant towards engaging in regular movement, and who are ready to try a fun, safe and community-oriented approach to achieving this life-long health behaviour.

About

The classes aim to foster a safe, fun and accepting movement community, inspired by one of CFIH’s core values: “We are all in this together”.

Spaces are capped at seven people per session to ensure each person receives a high level of care and guidance.

Where
Brisbane CBD (two locations – Adelaide St and Astor Tce).

When
Tuesday and Thursday afternoons at 5.30pm, and Saturday mornings at 8.30am. Session days and times will increase as the MWAP community grows.

Cost

  • $30 per class (private health rebates may apply) (debited as a weekly payment from the credit card details you provide)
  • $97.05 for your compulsory 1:1 initial consult with Alanah Dobinson, Accredited Exercise Physiologist and MWAP facilitator (assuming the use of a Medicare Chronic Disease Management Plan, otherwise the full cost is $150.00, which may be rebatable under private health).
  • Other: We understand people lead busy lives, so if you are unable to attend your usual classes, you can attend ‘make-up’ classes at a later date (where availability permits) for no extra charge.

Classes are available to attend weekly, fortnightly or monthly based on your schedule, and no cancellation fees apply if your schedule changes. If you miss a session, don’t worry – you can save it for next time.

1:1 Consults

A compulsory 1:1 initial consult at CFIH is required with Alanah. This consult is required to review your medical history (bloods, vitals, medications, medical conditions), relationship with exercise, movement capacity, barriers and goals. It is highly recommended you re-visit Alanah for future 1:1 sessions at varied intervals after this point, to ensure your individualised exercise focus remains clinically-appropriate and relevant to you.

Note: This class is not suitable for those who have been diagnosed with, or received treatment for, anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa or avoidant-restrictive food intake disorder in the past year. New sessions will be developed for people living with these eating disorders from late-2018, after the release of the clinical exercise guidelines for eating disorders, Safe Exercise at Every Stage (SEES).
